CONGRATULATIONS TO...

JOEY WHITTAKER.  She is the next winner of the MM Idol contest.  We are so excited for her.   When asked how she felt, she replied "Relieved and excited. I slept off and on last night. I woke up every couple of hours thinking about the competition.  At least I don’t feel like I’m going to be sick anymore!"  Joey will very quickly be initiated by fire into the MM design team.  Gail already have her work cut out for her.

A BIG THANKS goes out to Mou and Suzanne who are also amazing artists.

We are going to give away 3 more Show & Tell books. Give us your feedback about this competition and congratulate Joey on this amazing accomplishment.  We will pick the winners on Friday.

We have a winner

BUT......we can't tell you until tomorrow afternoon.  Check back so you can find out who it is.

THIS IS IT!

THIS IS IT!  This is the mother of all challenges! In this FINAL round of Making Memories Idol, you have the difficult task of selecting your favorite design from the three contestants’ submissions that are posted here.  For their final task (before you select a winner who will be REAL busy working on our new book), we have challenged our contestants to create a spectacular baby gift using scrapbooking supplies and some black-and-white images which we supplied to them. The final project should be something clean and simple, and that would fit into almost any nursery.

Needless to say, our contestants did not disappoint!  Click on the VOTE now tab (to the left) and take a look at these amazing projects which include:

  • Color-blocked canvas panels on clear frame for a floating look;
  • Simple and inexpensive shadowbox frames for book-ends; and,
  • Decorated magnet board displaying tins containing mini books.

Choose wisely!  You are helping select the next MAKING MEMORIES IDOL … It’s a big job, and we appreciate your help in making this happen!

Best of luck to all our contestants.  Voting ends tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4:00 p.m. MST, and we’ll reveal our winner Wednesday morning.

Winners.....

To all of you who left comments, thanks so much. I love deep and meaningful, and it looks like you do too. The reason why I asked for this book as a prize, is because it was my prize as the previous MM Idol winner. I am so happy to be able to share it with a few. Thanks so much for taking this creative journey with me these past few weeks every Wednesday! You will be amazed by the things I have learnt from you!! I am sure we will be celebrating on here soon with the new IDOL. I can't wait! : ). Here are the 3 winners. Please email me your addresses: wilna71@yahoo.ca

Wedsdays with Wilna: If you want to hunt tigers…

Friends_2
As this is my last post for the IDOLS and there are only three contestants left, I feel it’s time to talk deep. It basically comes down to over a thousand entries and only one winner. Soon we will know who will wear the crown of MM IDOL. And celebrate with her. But today, this post is dedicated to the nine-hundred-and-ninety nine, can I talk to you a second? Before I won the MM Idol contest, there was plenty times where I went through the frustration of not making the cut. Believe me if I tell you I have been there. Even have the T-shirt.

My first question to you will be... HOW BIG IS YOUR DREAM? Because if the dream is big enough, the facts don't count. The fact that there are more talented designers than you, more experienced designers, all of it doesn't count when your dream is big enough. My first challenge to you will be in the face of this experience, is to enlarge your dream. Make it so big that you can see nothing beyond it. If you have this passion burning so hot in your heart that you can barely breathe... hang on to it for dear life. The first thing that this cruel world wants is for you to loose that grip. To quit. To say, "I will never enter another competition again". I tell you, if I did that I will not be writing this blog at this moment. Or any other moment. If you look at history, it's the dreamers that climbed the high mountains and survived. But they were not merely dreamers, which hoped with all their might. They had faith. A definition of faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

I entered a few contests where I did not make the cut. But you know what? I had to go through those times of trial to assure myself how big my dream really was. That I believe in myself. That I do this with a passion. That I had something to say and something to give the world that is unique. A mandate. And the same goes for you. I ask you again... is your dream worth quitting on? I think not.

One thing that Jaco and I learned early in life, was fall down seven times, stand up eight. And in that process, dream bigger, reach farther, stretch yourself. And when it comes to pass, it will be a tree of life. Your dreams will not take you where your character cannot sustain you. I have come to realize that when your dream happens, you ought not be surprised. We all have to go through these "disappointments". It builds our character. (Like the cartoon character, Calvin always say... this character building is going to kill me!)

So, if you want to hunt tigers...you have to go where tigers are.
I really believe in you.

While you are enjoying the rest of your week and the weekend, they will be feverishly working on their next challenge.  Your vote next week will determine the final winner.  One of these three contestants will be crowned the next MM Idol on April 18th.  Check back on Monday, April 16th to make sure your vote counts.

We need your vote again

It's time again to vote on the next round for MM Idol.  We had such success last week with the anonymous voting, that we decided to do it again.

The challenge this week was to invent a technique using chipboard and incorporate it into a layout that will dazzle even the most creative viewer.  To make sure each project holds it’s own, we added a twist.  We required each contestant to use the same photos.

Take a look and vote for the one you think deserves the grand prize, which is a spot on the MM design team.

You will have until Tuesday, April 10th to place your vote.

Winners of "Blessing Tags"

As I was reading the comments I was in awe. Not only because of those who took time to answer the question, but the generosity of your words! Your words paid it forward. I am sure that Making Memories and the 5 remaining contestants love these responses as much as I did.  Thanks you.

Here are the 8 who won the tags. Please email me (wilna71@yahoo.ca)  and I will send it off to you. With your "blessing tag" to pay it forward with.

Wednesdays with Wilna-How to simplify and focus

Only five contestants left. WOW! If you are one of the five, you feel more than know that the heat is on!  I want to talk to you today about creating under stress. And it’s not only applicable to the five remaining contestants. How many times we have decided in the nick of time to make someone a card, or to throw a party, or make a little gift? And many of you are on design teams and know about deadlines!

When you create under stress it can either bring out the worst in you or the best. I am opting for the best! Here are a few ideas that I have learned in my experience with being creative and creating against the clock. The first thing is stick with your idea. When I was in the second last round of the previous idols, we had to do a party theme. The crazy hat party idea was the first thing that jumped into my mind because it was the theme for our 25th birthday party 10 years ago. After I decided on that I thought to adapt it to Christmas. And then the doubts started to descend. You know that feeling that there
HAS to be a million better ways to do this…you could just not think of ONE ???? Yeah. I know. In times like that, kill the doubts. Stick with your plan and make it work. Focus. To tell you the truth, I even felt that my idea was SO obvious that the others are also going to do it! Thoughts like this are very common during times of pressure. I want to insert to you here what my youngest daughter always tells me: “happy face!”

The next thing to do is make a list of things that need to be done. Prioritize time to get it done. Delegate some of your duties (work/home/cooking/ driving) for that 2/3 days so that you have breathing space. See that you simplify your life as much as possible. It’s important not to procrastinate, but to get it done. And then simplify your project. Take time to work on your presentation. You only have one chance. My weakness is that AFTER my project/page is done, most of the time I would feel it’s not enough. I would always want to add something. I have learned to tell myself NO. It’s OK. You don’t have to make another album to complete it. Or redo the project. Step away from it and let it be. Trust yourself. You have done your best.

A Little blessing

As the competition draws to a close, I have been in awe of the creativity every single round. So, in celebrating the resourcefulness of these amazing women, I want to give away 8 “blessing tags” that I made this week and will personalize for the person who gets it. In addition to that, the 8 that win the blessing tags will get another blank one to pay it forward with. I really feel that creativity is a beautiful way of blessing someone!

To win a blessing tag, please leave a comment telling Making Memories how the IDOLS contest have inspired you. I can't wait to hear your thoughts.
